Hello I'm Bintu Kabba

Hello! I’m Bintu Kabba, a proud Howard University graduate from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with roots in Guinea, Conakry. In 2023, I started BlacksinQatar as a personal project to document my journey as a Black woman exploring life in Doha, Qatar. What began as a creative outlet soon transformed into a community—a space where Black expats in Qatar could connect, share stories, and support one another. Today, BlacksinQatar is more than just a vlog; it's a growing movement and network for those who seek community, connection, and guidance while navigating life abroad.

My Journey: From Nonprofit to International Education

After six fulfilling years in the nonprofit sector, I found myself ready to explore a new career path. But as I began to look forward, life threw unexpected challenges my way. The tragic loss of my younger brother, coupled with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, brought everything to a halt. For two years, I was at a standstill, battling with grief and uncertainty.

Eventually, I found a part-time position teaching literacy to inner-city youth in Philadelphia. I was soon asked to become a full-time teacher, drawing on my experience as a teaching assistant in charter and Montessori schools during my time at Howard University. Accepting the role with Mastery Charter Schools, I dove fully into education, honing my skills and nurturing my passion for teaching. But after two years, I felt myself nearing burnout.

As I scrolled through job postings on Indeed, one title caught my eye: “Teach in Doha.” It felt like a sign, an opportunity to reignite my career in a fresh environment. With encouragement from friends and family, I applied, and soon found myself on a life-changing journey.

My experiences in Doha began to resonate with others through my TikTok videos. People were intrigued by my insights into this beautiful city and its culture, which felt largely unseen and misunderstood by much of the world. The responses were overwhelming—people wanted to learn more about Qatar and explore the possibilities of living and working abroad. Through this platform, I wasn’t just sharing a city; I was helping break down stereotypes and open doors for others on similar journeys.
